Manali Orchards Homestay

Your dwell in ❛the fruit bowl of the nation❜

Himachal Pradesh is a land of snow clad peaks, deciduous, coniferous and alpine forests at different elevation, teeming with rich bio diversity, jade green valleys and turbulent rivers, irresistible orchards lining the beautiful hamlets and rich cultural heritage adding to its glory. If you are smitten by the travel bug, many times a year, its possible to hit a unique destination in Himachal each time to get bowled over by its charm and have enough left for the next trip!

Manali for instance, makes sure our romance with the hill station is far from over. A land as colourful as its people, Manali at the northern tip of Kullu Valley is a travellers paradise not just for its alluring beauty but also because it’s accessible almost the year round. The snowy peaks of Dhauladhar and Pirpanjal surrounding the valleys and river Beas cutting through, a sight to behold!

Popular tourist destinations of Himachal Pradesh are teeming with vacationers for most part of the year. Yet we feel, the best way to explore a place lies not at the centre of the town. A few walks away, where the crowd is thin, the serenity and tranquillity is unspoilt, provides the perfect ambiance.

❝ Whate’er the theme, the Maiden sang
As if her song could have no ending;
I saw her singing at her work,
And o’er the sickle bending;—
I listened, motionless and still;
And, as I mounted up the hill,
The music in my heart I bore,
Long after it was heard no more ❞
William Wordsworth

Little more…

Cuisine

North Indian vegan fare is served by the hosts which is very tasty as most veggies are garden grown as are the fruits. (There is a restaurant about 1.5 km away too.) Breakfast is complimentary, you can choose between parathas with home made curd, pickles or savoury sandwiches, or butter toast or garden fresh jam and bread, or even oats, corn flakes, siddu, poori sabzi etc. There’s a private dairy too, for milk and other dairy products.

You’ll be having a real treat for your taste buds as the ingredients are mostly home grown, see it to believe it. You are most welcome to join the family over lunch and a good banter.

The hosts are communicative and very friendly and take tremendous care to keep the guests happy and comfortable. The family has been residing there for generations, they are well acquainted with the locality. They can gladly help you out to plan outdoor activities like trekking, river rafting, rock climbing, paragliding, skiing (in winter), bird watching, angling, village walks and nature trails, photography…the choices are many. Reading, painting or writing can also be a good option.

How to reach ↷

By Air: The closest airport is located in Kullu-Manali Airport in Bhuntar, which is 10 km away from Manali’s city centre and 39 km from the homestay. The duration of the flight is just over an hour so you can drastically cut down the time of travelling this way. Summer vacations are just around the corner, so you can book the cheapest flights right away if you wish.

By Train: You can’t go from Delhi to Manali directly on a train because Manali doesn’t have a railway station of its own. Also, although the nearest railway station (162 km away from Manali) is located in Joginder Nagar, that too is not connected directly from Delhi. Chandigarh’s railway station is the closest (294 km away) to Manali, which is connected directly to Delhi. So, trains are the least convenient mode of transport to take while going from Delhi to Manali.

By Road: The distance between Delhi to Manali via road is approximately 530 km. You can either drive all the way down to Manali in your private car, or hire a direct taxi. The cheapest mode of transport would be to go via the Himachal State Transport bus. Buses have a good frequency and an overnight journey is recommended. You can get air-conditioned or non air-conditioned buses as per your requirements. Private bus operators also ply on this busy route, so it’s very hard to not get a bus from Delhi to Manali.
