It is a 60 year old Assam style cottage which has been restored with much love and the aesthetics are exceptional. Colonial architechture, wooden floors, fireplace, piano and understated decor give an unmatched old world vibe but all rooms are equipped with modern amenities. 2 supreme double bedrooms and 1 family suite has attached washroom, geyser, microwave, electric kettle and are super comfy and spacious. Homemade breakfast is sumptous, both continental and traditional local cuisine are served. A lot of baking, steaming, roasting are done here and there’s a lot to pick up from the menu but one needs to inform in advance, as this is a homestay, not a hotel. At present Shillong has only a handful of colonial Assam cottages and this boutique homestay located in a posh area, La Chaumiere, in proximity to Police Bazar and Laitumkhrah market. Yet the rooms open up to the views of the beautiful Shillong Vallley, and is away from the din and bustle of the city.
The host is extremely polite, soft spoken and her guests always appreciate and fondly remember her warm hospitality. The property also has wifi, cctv, parking area and is pet friendly. A good number of places can be visited from here including treks and trails to caves, root bridges, waterfalls, forests, natural pools, and also cultural and culinary trails, historical walks, musical shows etc. Great for solo travelers, family, couples.
