Mim Tea Estate, West Bengal
Homestay at Mim Tea Garden
Starts from 1450
Thought it would be like waking up to whole new world.
Thought everything must have metamorphosed into something alien to us.
Thought our nightmares won’t end.
Thought we would never be able to be the same entity that we were ie prior to March 2020. So many thoughts blazing across our minds...as the car navigates the serpentine lanes, running between greenest of green tea gardens of Darjeeling, gaining altitude and a dip in temperature and suddenly the sacred peaks of snowcapped Kanchenjunga appears across the horizon with all her grandeur intact. Gradually it dawns in our mind that mother nature has always reserved for us the greatest healing touch of her. We, petty immortals fail to acknowledge that, sometimes.
❝ Away, away, from men and towns, To the wild wood and the downs, — To the silent wilderness, Where the soul need not repress
Its music

Details
The physician treats, but nature heals.
Welcome to Mim Tea Gardens, Jorebunglow, Darjeeling. Sprawling over about 390 hectares of luscious green tea bushes, at an elevation of 5000 ft (approx) the history of the garden dates back to 1800 in pre-independance era, when the garden used to be looked after by a British lady, ‘mem-sahib’ as she was called by locals. Hence the name Mim (from mem, ofcourse) Tea Gardens.
Into the garden and greens
The location is absolutely stunning and exceptionally tranquil. Darjeeling town being about 20km away, amidst the serene solitude, Nature speaks in volumes. Tea bushes, loads of greenery, rolling hills, birds, butterflies and the Kangchenjunga are more than enough to let us be in our elements.
And just around the corner...
Sitting in such a picturesque canvas is a beautiful homestay run by a local family who are known to be the one of the warmest hosts around Darjeeling. The rooms, all with attached baths and private balcony, are very clean and comfortable and opens up to the wondrous vistas all around. Everywhere you look around you will be mesmerised by the sparkling silver peaks of Kangchenjunga or the undulating velvety green tea gardens or both.
Food is great. Farm fresh and organic vegetables add up to the flavours. Generally local traditional cuisine is served. Wake up to some finest Darjeeling tea and pack some more for your friends back home. Here it’s worthy to note that Mim Tea Gardens, run by the Govt of India and managed by Andrew Yule & Co., produces some exceptional flavours that tea connoisseurs around the world already have fallen in love with.
Oolong, Hand-rolled, Pearl, Moondrop, White, Green and Flower tea are the specialties. You’ll be surprised to learn that Mim White Dew tea (Andrew Yule & Co.) was sold at a record 15,750 a kg that too in Apr 2018 (as reported in The Hindu).
