Details

Where?

Jhepi is a small mountain hamlet located at a valley and an altitude of about 2,500ft, 30kms from Darjeeling town and can be approached via Ghum. There is a winding scenic road that goes down from the Ghumm all the way down to this sleepy town over a stretch of 34 kilometers. On the way you will pass by some lovely mountain streams, waterfalls, prize winning tea gardens like Marybong, Rishihaat and unspoiled forests.

Why go?

Because it is blissfully solitary where there are no fast cars, no fast lifestyle where even e-mails don’t reach and the most amazing thing is there is absolutely no routine to follow.

At Jhepi farm

Owned and run by the Pradhan family who started planning and conceptualizing the farm, gradually built the cottages, finally Jhepi farm came up in October 2019, and they welcomed their first guest in the following month.

So how is it? As they themselves define it – “Experiential, Interactive, Simple and Local”. Yes that is it. You will get to know about the farm through experience and interaction with life & nature around, and it’s kept simple and local to retain the authentic rustic flavor of a typical farm in a mountain valley of Darjeeling. That’s what you want after all.

Stay in Jhepi farm

Pathways around the farm lead to the two two simple cottages (Abundance and Simplicity), each with a bedroom and a bathroom and a two-storey building with four rooms.

While the rooms are kept simple to retain the rustic and natural ambience, they are very tastefully done up. The cottages, and in fact all the constructions in the farm are done using natural materials available locally like stones, bamboo, mud, thatch, straws etc.

The cottages, placed next to each other are the first to be seen as you come down from the road level and approach the farm. Another good feature of the cottage is its front private balcony overlooking the farm and the mountains ahead.

The two-storey building is great too and located at far end of another pathway. It has nice large and open common patio in front, you can take your breakfast here while watching the vast farmland and wonderful greenery all around and mountains forming the backdrop. Rooms are cozy with beds for two, and attached European style bathrooms.
